Conscious Kitchen is a non-profit organization based in The Hague that organizes weekly dinners to promote the importance of community and sustainability. Completely run by volunteers, the dinners are a great place to meet new people, learn more about conscious and sustainable consumption, and to just have a fun evening. Due to the Corona pandemic Conscious Kitchen has shifted towards vegetable and food sharing rather than the regular dinners. Every Friday afternoon, volunteers collect veggies from the Haagse Markt that would have been thrown away by vendors and bring these to Stads Oase Spinozahof for pick-up.
Why sustainable?
Conscious Kitchen is a sustainable initiative as they cook meals and give away food that would otherwise have been thrown away, thereby limiting food waste. Furthermore, they try to raise awareness about food waste and bring people together to address the problem.
Zero Hunger: Conscious Kitchen promotes food security in local communities by providing free vegetables and fruits at their food sharing events.
Sustainable Cities and Communities: Conscious Kitchen promotes sustainable cities and communities by boosting urban food security and bringing together urban communities.
Responsible Consumption and Production: Conscious Kitchen promotes responsible consumption by reducing potential food waste and, encouraging responsible consumption.
