De Zeeheldentuin is a community garden initiative established in 2014 aiming to create an urban garden as a space for social activities and organic products. Currently, it is a nature playground, orchard, vegetable garden and picnic area, under continuous development by local volunteers, patrons and board members. The initiative also involves community events including workshops, gardening sessions and music.
De Zeeheldentuin is a community initiative with numerous sustainable qualities. The garden provides an area of biodiversity within the city, improves air quality through mitigation of carbon, improves organic-waste management, and promotes local food consumption and production.
Sustainable Cities and Communities: The playground, workshops, and social activities promote community building and sustainable action.
Responsible Consumption and Production: This initiative promotes local food consumption and production, reducing food-related carbon emissions.
Partnerships for the Goals: The local neighborhood is involved in the design and maintenance of the gardens, promoting a peaceful and inclusive community.
