Echte Haagse Honing is a local garden that produces organic honey. The bees are kept at the Vruchtbuurt, as well as in the local green spaces in the surroundings. Echte Haagse Honing keeps around ten colonies of the Carnica bee species and they are open for visitors who want to have a look and learn more about bees. The honey is sold at the Tasty bread and the chocolate shop, as well as in the garden.
Why sustainable?
Echte Haagse Honing produces and sells their honey locally in The Hague, which decreases food miles. Furthermore, the Carnica bee pollinates the local green areas around the city, thus helping to maintain local green areas. Additionally, the honey is organically produced from the bees residing in the Hague.
Sustainable Cities and Communities: Bees in urban areas are becoming increasingly important as built environments are taking up more space. Bees are crucial to maintain thriving green spaces, in cities and beyond.
Life onland: Bees are pollinators and therefore essential for many crops, vegetables, and plants. We rely on bees to fertilize many vegetables and crops, and to protect biodiversity.
