welcome to sustainable the hagueThe news is full of environmental issues: record breaking temperatures, tropical deforestation, forest fires, water shortages and plastic soups. For many, the problems we face are overwhelming and even disempowering. Surely, individual actions cannot solve climate change, the rain forests or clean-ups our oceans?
Yes… the challenges we face are hard-to-fathom and they require collective action at a global scale. But change is possible! And… often at a local level changes are happening. So… where to get that delicious sustainable lunch? Or one of your appliances repaired? Or what about clothes that were made with attention to the working conditions of laborers, and the environment? And where can you make a contribution? The Hague is full of amazing sustainable initiatives, and the goal of this website is to bring those together in one spot, so you can more easily find sustainable options near you, be it for lunch, groceries, new (or used) clothes or community initiatives. For each of the initiatives on this website we provide details in what they do, and why they are sustainable, linking them directly to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Global Challenges, but Local Actions To contribute to the Haagse community, this website is developed by students from Leiden University College (LUC), located right next to Den Haag Centraal.
