Hortus is a vegetarian restaurant in The Hague with many vegan options as well. They buy their ingredients from local suppliers and use sustainably grown, organic produce for their dishes. In addition to food, they also sell products such as organic eggs, vegetarian wines, and homemade bread and cakes.
Why sustainable?
Eating vegetarian or vegan foods greatly reduces your ecological footprint, as the production of animal food products is a huge contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and unsustainable water and land use. Furthermore, eating from local suppliers decreases the food miles from transportation and production.
Responsible Consumption and Production: Obtaining products locally is an example of responsible consumption as it reduces the ecological footprint.
Climate Action: Eating locally helps to reduce the emissions involved in the production, transportation, and storage of foods.
Life on Land: Eating a plant-based diet can help alleviate the strain that livestock production places on the land, including deforestation and biodiversity loss.
