North Sea Farmers is a non-profit organization which aims to create a network between seaweed engineers, entrepreneurs, policymakers, pioneers, fishermen and researchers within the seaweed sector of the Netherlands. They support both small and big initiatives which each collaboratively work toward building a 400km2 seaweed farm in the North Sea. North Sea Farmers currently have an offshore test site of 6km2 where members of their community can try out their pilot programs which the organization supports by providing logistics, local measurement data and safety.

The seaweed activities of the North Sea Farmers advocate for a circular economy and help to improve marine biodiversity and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Responsible Consumption and Production: Seaweed biostimulants can be used as a substitute for fertilizers.
Climate Action: The seaweed farm will enhance carbon capture by the ocean. Farming seaweed has a negative carbon footprint as it produces less carbon than it absorbs.
Life below Water: More than 40 species can be found on a single seaweed leaf! Therefore, the seaweed farm will provide a habitat for small marine life..
