The American Book Center in the Hague is an independent, family-owned bookstore selling only English books. At the bottom level it is a traditional bookstore, however, on the second floor they sell used books to great prices. They have ‘Trade-in-days’ where you give them your old books and then get a giftcard to the estimated resale value of the book. The next Trade-in day is January 8th.
Why sustainable?
The American Book Center in the Hague allows you to hand in your old books and then through a voucher get another used book. This is a good example of a circular economy in which sharing and reuse replace consumption of new products. It also means we require less paper (and therefore fewer trees), and fewer resources (for example fossil fuels during production) to make new books.
Responsible consumption and production. The ABC’s trade-in function allows consumers to buy less newly produced products and instead buy something second-hand.
Climate Action: By having to produce fewer new books, less CO2 will be emitted as a result of less transportation and manufacturing.
